- Teach concepts in this order:
- Teach one pair of concepts at a time.
- Use real life objects as much as possible.
- Use materials that are relevant and interesting to the students.
- Make sure the objects you are using differ substantially enough to show the difference between the concept pair.
- Teach concepts in a variety of contexts.
- Give students the opportunity to build. When students build they use all types of materials: long/short, heavy/light, etc.
- Make reference to concepts throughout the day (which line is longer?) and in a variety of situations to reinforce the importance of learning about these concepts.
- Have students make quantitative concepts books. Dedicate one set of facing pages to each concept pair.
