Compound Word Lesson Ideas

  • I write each word on a small sentence strip or flashcard. (Ex. base ball) I split the class up. Make two lines. I give one line the first word in the compound word. Then I give the 2nd line the second word in the compound word. I tell them that they have 5 minutes to find their partner and to stand a line. After they find their partner. They tell the class what the word is and put it in a sentence.
  • My kids will take a piece of paper and fold it so there are two flaps. On one flap they write the first word, the other flap they write the second word. They also draw pictures. Then, they open up the flaps and inside write the compound word and draw a picture of it.
