Relationship Management Lesson Ideas

  • Write and read social stories about respect for authority and getting along with friends.
  • Talk to students about different relationships in your life. The principal is your boss and he/she tells you what to do. The teacher next door is your friend - they don't tell you what to do.
  • Draw circles to represent relationships that the student has with people in their life. The people in the circle closest to the student are probably their family, then friends, then acquaintances, etc.
  • Do proximity exercises - explore the concept of personal space.
  • Talk about appropriate touch - who can you hug, kiss, hold hands with?
  • Practice using an appropriate tone of voice for different situations.
