Jumping Lesson Ideas

  • Jump into piles of leaves.
  • Draw a chalk “tightrope” on the ground. Have students practice jumping and maintaining their balance as they land.
  • Have one student show the others how to jump. Everyone should try this type of jump.
  • Place a beanbag between your feet. Try to jump without dropping the beanbag. Try it between your knees next.
  • Have students jump over a skipping rope snake on the ground.
  • Challenge students to jump over a skipping rope being swung back and forth low to the ground.
  • Jump rope.
  • Hop like bunnies down a given line.
  • Challenge students to hop over puddles.
  • Play hopscotch.
  • Determine the highest point from which the child can jump - start at low height - a mat to the floor. Hold their hands at first and then move off to the side and away.
